Celeros Flow Technology injects new life into forty year old SAGD pump to extend heavy oil production for customer

Celeros Flow Technology has injected new life into a heritage pump for a Canadian heavy oil recovery customer, enabling them to increase production. The pump – a Mather & Platt BB5 – was more than forty years old and had been subject to numerous post-installation alterations.
Heavy oil deposits are extremely viscous and require the injection of excessive stress, excessive temperature steam to enhance fluidity and allow the oil to be pumped to the floor. In order to boost extraction on this project, the customer wanted to increase water temperatures from 90° C to 140° C. However, there have been issues that the prevailing pump could not be capable of ship this requirement. Nozzle masses had been a selected concern. They turned to Celeros Flow Technology brand ClydeUnion Pumps, their preferred provider of some 20 years, for assistance.
Mather & Platt is one of a quantity of heritage pump manufacturers for which Celeros Flow Technology provides full lifecycle support1. Their aftermarket engineering team undertook a thorough examination of the quadragenarian Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) boiler feed water pump used in the heavy oil extraction process. The investigation revealed that the pump had suffered a variety of seal failures over time that had damaged the stuffing field and affected operational effectivity. There had also been no maintenance interventions for many years – but the pump had by no means truly failed.
Says Mike Golds, Global Upgrade and Rerate Programme Manager for ClydeUnion Pumps: “It is testomony to the standard of the unique pump that it had continued to function in such harsh circumstances and with no common maintenance over such a protracted time frame. More importantly, it gave us confidence that a thorough overhaul may achieve the specified improvement in efficiency, saving the client the price and lost manufacturing time that can be associated with sourcing and installing a brand new unit.”
Celeros Flow Technology overhauled the SAGD pump and performed a mechanical seal improve and Plan 23 seal flush to optimize pump efficiency. In addition, finite factor evaluation was undertaken to substantiate that the nozzle masses would withstand the specified temperature improve. As a result, the pump is now capable of delivering steam at the higher temperatures required. The seal upgrades ensure it meets the latest specs.
Concludes pressure gauge 4 นิ้ว : “We are actually pleased with the finish result of the SAGD pump improve. It has not only achieved the specified manufacturing improve for the customer, but additionally supplied a more sustainable and cost-effective resolution than total pump alternative. Using fashionable engineering and analysis, we now have been able to give the prevailing pump a new lease of life and guarantee it’ll continue to carry out well for lots of more years.”
