Earlier this month, unit 5 successfully passed a 15-day trial operation and was officially put into business operation. It is the world’s first reversible pumped storage unit with a rated pace of 600 r/min and a capacity of 350 MW. There are six units put in in complete on the 2.1 GW Changlongshan station positioned in Zhejiang Province.
Voith says that the efficiency of unit 5 received excellent feedback from the homeowners and specialists in the industry.
“The data confirmed that the unit meets our excellence standards and thereby proves that the engineering, manufacturing, set up and commissioning of the world’s first 600 r/min with 350 MW unit was profitable,” mentioned Zhang Chengping, mechanical and electrical chief engineer at plant operator the China Three Gorges Group (CTG).
